How do I change my nickname or icon?

Version 1.5 and later: Tap your icon, then the (i) on the callout, and you'll see “Change Nickname & Icon” as one of the options.

Version 1.3 and 1.4: Tap your icon, then the ⊕ on the callout, and you'll see “Change Nickname & Icon” as one of the options.

Version 1.2 and earlier: Go to the Settings app (the one with the gears, where you go to set up Wi-Fi or clear the browser cache) and scroll to Group Tracker, open it and you’ll see what you need.

How do I get those cool icons?

The Emoji keyboard is available by default, so just open it and type the Emoji you want in the Icon field.

Does everyone need to update to Pro to take advantage of the longer group durations and wider grouping areas?

No, just the group leader needs to update. Everyone else gets the benefits automatically!

Why can’t I get some Group Tracker users to join my group?

They may have changed their settings in Settings > Group Tracker so that they deny all requests to join groups, or they may already be members of the same group as you, that is, you share the same leader.

Why can’t I send messages to Group Tracker users not in my group?

By default, messaging options are set so that users can receive messages from those in their group or those requesting help. For privacy reasons, Group Tracker won’t disclose anyone’s messaging options.

Why does my icon update more often than everyone else’s?

To save power on your mobile device and reduce the load on the server, Group Tracker sends updates to the server less frequently than the updates it gets from GPS. Group Tracker uses the server to get the locations of the other users, so they may not be as current as your location.

The Refresh button will force an update right away, and in Settings > Group Tracker, there is a setting “Update Location Every” to change the default of 30 seconds to something more frequent. If everyone in your group sets to a shorter interval, then the locations will be more up-to-date.

What do the dashed borders around the icons mean?

The dashed borders have the following meanings…

user

Blue is you. Regardless of your role: group leader or member, your border is blue. The only exception is if you request help.

requesting help

Red means the Group Tracker user, including you, is requesting help. The border stays red until all the help messages have been received.

group leader

If you’re not the group leader, then the black bordered icon is your group leader.

confirmed member

Green indicates confirmed group members. These are people who are your group members, or have the same leader as you.

unconfirmed member

Grey indicates unconfirmed group members. They have changed their settings so that confirmation is required before they join your group.

leader waiting for confirmation

Orange is the other side of grey, they are leaders waiting for your confirmation.
